Gaming

I love video games!

My first memories of games were flash games on platforms like Miniclip and Y8 as well as educational DVDs like Reader Rabbit (to further demonstrate how long ago this was… it was played with a boxy monitor).

The first ā€œproperā€ gaming device my family had was a Nintendo DS Lite, a red one with the Mario symbol on its shell like the one below:

My brother and I spent plenty of our childhood on it, with first party games like Super Mario Brothers, Mario Party, WarioWare, Cooking Mama, Trackmania, and Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli. How did we get so many games? Well… in 2010 my dad found a nice little shop in a Chinese mall that sold us, for $40 CAD, a cartridge that contained 64 games. Yarr! šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø

The DS Lite served to not only entertain my brother and I individually, but we can play local co-op with one on the DS Lite ā€œhostingā€ games and the DSi being the ā€œguestā€. I remember in Mario Kart DS, the boy playing on the DSi was always Shy Guy. …interesting design choice, Nintendo…

Unfortunately that all ceased when my brother accidentally snapped the DS in a fit of rage on one fateful night. No, I haven’t forgiven him for that.

R.I.P, Nintendo DS Lite. Thanks for the memories of the pirated games and really, really slow internet browser…

Since then, I’ve racked up several consoles with plenty of games whilst also having a crack at PC gaming on my laptop, primarily old or emulated games as it’s got quite the bottleneck.

Below is a list of games I have for each platform I have own, to the best of my memory.

I haven’t completed all of them, and no I haven’t ā€œplatinumedā€ or 100%’d anything yet. But… I have 94% of the trophies in Gran Turismo 6 while Uncharted 4 only has a few multiplayer trophies to scratch off before making the whole series possible to platnum online… hmm…

⭐= a part of my favourites

I should point out I have not completed all of these games. The Venn diagram of my brother and I’s commonly played games isn’t a single circle after all!

Nintendo DS (2008?) / DSi (2010)

Nintendo Wii (2012)

PS3 (~2015?)

I used to own FIFA 14 World Cup edition and NASCAR 14 but traded them into Gamestop, which went by EB Games at the time. I recall the latter game being so goddamn awful because it froze very frequently and was pretty much unplayable.

PS4 (2015. First console bought with cold hard cash!)

Nintendo Switch (2019)
